Auditions

The A2SO 2010-2011 audition submission deadline has passed. Please check back here for open position postings in the 2011-2012 season.

We invite qualified, professional musicians to send resumes in advance of the auditions to auditions@a2so.com. Please note in the subject line the position for which you plan to audition. All submissions must be accepted by Friday, September 10 at 5:00 pm EST.

For the 2010-2011 season we have the following openings, listed below with the corresponding audition date. Specific audition times will be assigned in late August. Click on your instrument to view and download the audition excerpts:

Applicants are required to mail a refundable deposit of $15. Only checks will be accepted; the deadline is Friday, September 10 at 5 pm EST. Please make checks payable to the "Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra." Checks should be mailed to the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra office located at 220 E Huron, Ste 470, Ann Arbor, MI 48104. Please indicate your instrument in the memo section. Deposits are refunded at the audition or for cancellations prior to Friday, September 10.

The A2SO generally has 4 rehearsals during the week of a concert. The concert schedule for 2010-2011 includes but is not limited to:

  • September 26, 2010
  • October 23, 2010
  • November 13-14, 2010
  • December 4-5, 2010
  • January 22, 2011
  • March 12, 13, & 16, 2011
  • April 30, 2011

The 2010-2011 pay scale will be determined upon completion of negotiation of a new contract. The pay scale in 2009-2010 was $75.75 per service for section players and $94.70 per service for principals. For 2009-2010 there was a mileage stipend for musicians traveling more than 12 miles to the service site, also under negotiation. There are approximately 45-55 services each season.

The A2SO is a professional orchestra, performing 11-15 concerts each year, including mainstage concerts, daytime youth concerts, family concerts and contract services. We are proud of the excellent music making in our concerts which serve over 50,000 area listeners annually.
