Afternoon Delights

The Jewish Community Center of Washtenaw County will host the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra for their mid-day Afternoon Delights chamber ensemble on Wednesday, May 13th, at 1:00 pm. The concert will feature Maestro and Music Director Arie Lipsky, Horn player Andrew Pelletier, and Pianist Chrstina Laberge. Music selections include pieces by G.F. Handel, L. Kogan, D. Saint-Saens, P. Maxwell Davies, I. James, and M. Marais. The hour long concert is preceded by a reception, giving audience members an opportunity to mingle with the featured musicians.


Pinckney Side-by-Side Concert

The Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra will team up with Pinckney Community Schools to perform the third annual Pinckney Side-by-Side Concert on Thursday, May 14th at 7:30 pm at the Jane Tasch Theater in Pinckney. Students of the Pinckney High School Orchestra, Pathfinder School Orchestra, and Navigator School Orchestra will share stands on stage and play in unison with members of the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra. The A2SO and the Pinckney High School Orchestra will perform Overture to Rienzi, Richard Wagner's first successful opera, as well as the Farandole from L'Arlesienne Suite No. 2 composed by Georges Bizet. For the first time, seventh- and eighth-grade Pathfinder School students will perform with the A²SO, playing the fourth movement of the New World Symphony by Antonin Dvo?ák and Nikolai Rimsky-Korasakoff's Dance of the Tumblers from the opera The Snow Maiden. Sixth-grade Navigator School students will also be performing separately. The Side-by-Side Concert builds upon years of collaboration and mentorship between Pinckney Community Schools and the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra. General admission tickets are $10 and are available in advance at Busch's in Pinckney, or by calling the Pinckney Central Offices at 810-225-3900. Tickets can also be purchased at the door.


Arie Conducting Churchill High School Orchestra

Maestro and Music Director Arie Lipsky will be conducting the Churchill High School Orchestra on Wednesday, May 20th at 7:00 pm at the Churchill High School Auditorium in Livonia. After an opening by the Frost Middle School Orchestras, the Churchill Orchestra will perform Holst's St. Paul's Suite, Cello Concerto No. 1 by Saint-Saens, Tchaikowski's Marche Slav, and conclude with the Russian Sailor's Dance by Gliere. The concert will feature senior cello soloist, Candace Chappell. Maestro Lipsky will rehearse with the Orchestra four times prior to the concert. Tickets are $5 and sold only at the door.


KinderConcert: Music and Motion

The Ann Arbor District Library will host the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra on July 21st at 6:30 pm, for their Music and Motion-themed KinderConcert, geared towards 2-6 year olds. The theme of the concert complements the Library's summer reading program, "Local Motion." Narrator and movement specialist Gari Stein and pianist Kathryn Goodson will be accompanied by double bass player, Erin Zurbuchen. The concert is free of charge.


Science, Sound and Cinema Camp

In collaboration with the Ann Arbor Hands on Museum and the Michigan Theater, this summer the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra will offer the Science, Sound and Cinema Camp. The day camp will run from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, August 3rd through August 7th for students entering grades 3-6. Students will explore a daily topic such as animals or space through science, music and film. Campers will start at the Ann Arbor Hands on Museum with music and hands-on activities and walk to Michigan Theater to investigate the art and science of film making. Good Vibrations Camp

Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra and the Ann Arbor Hands of Museum's educators present a week of sound and music! The Good Vibrations day camp will run from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, August 17th through August 21st, for students entering grades 2-4. Campers are introduced to music by discovering the science of sounds, creating their own instruments, composing their own music, recording their own compositions, and performing music with fellow campers.
