


Children hear classical music, move and dance to the music, listen to a book and learn about the saxophone with Robert Young, early childhood educator Gari Stein and pianist Kathryn Goodson. The movements help children enjoy music in an active way that encourages learning and creativity.
Gari Stein is the founder and director of Music for Little Folks and a highly sought-after early childhood educator who has developed music and movement curriculum for infants, toddlers and preschoolers.
Robert Young (b. 1984) is currently pursuing the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Saxophone Performance from the University of Michigan. There he serves as the Graduate Student Instructor of Saxophone. Robert holds a Masters degree in Saxophone Performance from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of South Carolina in Music Performance. Robert’s primary teachers include Donald Sinta, Clifford Leaman, Andrew Bishop, and Bert Ligon.
Robert has received awards at numerous regional and national competitions including; 1st prize of the Society of Musical Arts Competition, Winner of Tuesday Musicale of Detroit Competition, 1st Prize in the Josie Etta Daley Young Artist Competition, 3rd prize in the 2005 MTNA National Collegiate Young Artist Competition, 1st prize in the 2002 MTNA National Woodwind Competition, winner of the USC Young Artist Concerto Competition, 1st prize at the Southeastern Young Artist Competition, and a finalist in the University of Michigan Concerto Competition. Robert is also a recipient of the Lawrence Teal Saxophone Award and the nationally recognized Presser Music Scholar Award. In addition to his achievements as a soloist, he has also performed with the Charleston (SC) Symphony Orchestra under Maestro David Stahl, University of Michigan Symphony Orchestra, and with the Plymouth Symphony Orchestra. Robert also performed Darius Milhaud’s "La Creation du Monde" with the Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings as a part of The Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival in the June 2008.
