Congratulations Elizabeth!

Remember Elizabeth Kelly? She was the enormously talented composer who wrote the Cross Foundation-sponsored piece "Stop, Drop, and Listen" for our March Family Concert. Yours truly was the 'audience leader' for that piece which included coughing, program rattling, laughing, and cell phones.

Well, Elizabeth Kelly is one of the winners of the 2008 ASCAP/Morton Gould Young Composer Awards! ASCAP Foundation President Marilyn Bergman announced the recipients names on April 7th. The young composers were recognized at the 9th Annual ASCAP Concert Music Awards at The Times Center in New York on May 22, 2008.

We salute you, Elizabeth, and appreciate your contribution to our last season, and we wish you all the best as you pursue your dreams!

Chair Soirée a great success

Your Ann Arbor Symphony held an event on May 19th at the home of Rochelle Hanley and Shirish Shenolikar as a thank you to our current Chair Sponsors and to invite new members to become Chair Sponsors. In addition to cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, the 50 attendees enjoyed a performance of Beethoven duos with Maestro Arie Lipsky on the flute and A²SO Principal Cellist Sarah Cleveland on the cello. As a result of the event, we already have three new Chair Sponsors for this coming season.

We are so grateful to our Chair Sponsors because they ensure musical quality performances by helping attract and keep talented musicians of the highest caliber. If you have never taken part in this program, chair sponsorship is a great opportunity to give and experience a closer connection to your A²SO. For more information about participating in this exciting program and its benefits to you, your A²SO and your community, please contact Mary Steffek Blaske or Guy Barast at the Ann Arbor Symphony office at 734/994-4801.

Fifth Third Bank recently celebrated its annual "working holiday," also known as Fifth Third Day (fifth month, third day) all week long, April 28 – May 5. During Fifth Third's “Week of Giving,” the bank donated a total of $206,000 to local charitable organizations.

The Ann Arbor Symphony was the recipient of a gift of $2,500 in support of our programs that meet the needs of the community, in particular families, persons and areas that are low-to-moderate income. We are grateful for the generosity of Fifth Third Bank and its recognition that the performing arts are an important part of the well-being of our community.
