Michigan Theater
Mozart: Divertimento No. 11 in D major
Mozart: Piano Concerto No. 27 in B-flat major, K. 595
Mozart: Symphony No. 38 in D major, K. 504 (“Prague Symphony”)
In our annual celebration of the boy genius and his music, your A2SO gives you a sampling of Mozart’s brilliance in three forms: an overture to one of his greatest operas, a tour de force piano concerto and one of his later symphonies. The Birthday Bash begins with the Overture from Don Giovanni and then wanders through the melodies derived from the dramatic opera.
Mozart’s final Piano Concerto, No. 27 in B-flat major, reflects grace, charm, and the sublime. Listen to its lyric and intimate melodies played by one of the leaders of the next generation of world-class pianists, Ran Dank.
The crown jewel of this year’s Birthday Bash will be Mozart’s Symphony No. 38 in D major, the “Prague Symphony.” Named after its premier performance during Mozart’s 1787 visit to Bohemia, the “Prague Symphony” is a perfect example of Mozart’s late symphonic style.
Pianist Ran Dank made his dazzling Kennedy Center debut in the 2010-2011 season. In 2008-2009, Dank won the Young Concert Artists’ Buchman Memorial Prize as well as First Prize in the 2008 Hilton Head Piano Competition.
