Bolcom: Ragomania, A Classic Festival Overture
Schumann: Cello Concerto in A minor, Op. 129
Shostakovich: Symphony No. 5 in D minor, Op. 47

Celebrate our new symphony season with the ragtime stylings of Pulitzer Prize-winning Ann Arbor composer William Bolcom and his Ragomania: A Classic Festival Overture. Hear how Bolcom takes a unique American musical tradition and puts a symphonic spin on it to make a totally new creation. We will all be tapping our feet to the jazzy rhythms in Ragomania.

Few 20th-century symphonic works compare to Dmitri Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony. Combining simplicity with an unrivaled emotional depth gives the listener an intense, “edge-of-your-seat” experience. Journey with Shostakovich as he takes us from fear and anguish into hope.

Cellist Julie Albers returns to the Michigan Theater stage to captivate A2SO patrons with a performance of Schumann’s magnificent and poignant Cello Concerto in A minor.
